The Story of Igniting the Power Within
In 2004, First Nations and Metis organizations, along with Manitoba Advanced Education and Training formed a partnership to respond to the growing need for Essential Skills and PLAR information in Aboriginal communities throughout Manitoba.
Early discussions led to a vision of a training program for community advisors/counsellors. Igniting the Power Within was born and the partners became a steering committee.
Throughout the creation and planning of the Igniting the Power Within certification levels, the committee worked to make sure that the process and content reflected and respected the groups being asked to participate. As well, the participants themselves influence how information is presented with their ongoing feedback.
To date, Igniting the Power Within has impacted thousands of Aboriginal community members across Manitoba, helping them to begin their individual journeys towards success.
